Not every skin concern needs a dramatic procedure. Moxi is designed for patients who want meaningful improvement in tone and texture without the downtime or recovery. It’s one of the most comfortable laser treatments available and is popular with patients who want to stay ahead of the aging process. Moxi uses a non-ablative fractionated laser to deliver microscopic columns of energy into the skin, stimulating the body's natural repair process without removing the surface layer entirely.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

All Moxi treatments at Element Dermatology are performed under the direct oversight of Dr. Barry LaBine, a board-certified dermatologist. Here's what you can expect from your appointment:

  • Your Consultation: We review your skin concerns, discuss your goals, and assess whether Moxi is the right starting point or if a more intensive treatment would serve you better. For patients with pigmentation that lies beneath the surface, VISIA imaging helps us identify factors that could affect your results before we begin.
  • The Treatment: A topical numbing cream is applied 30 to 45 minutes before the laser pass begins. The Moxi handpiece is moved across the treatment area, delivering energy in a fractional, randomized pattern. Most patients describe the sensation as mild warmth and prickling, typically around a 2 out of 10 with numbing.
  • Results and Follow-Up: Expect redness and tiny micro-dots on day one, which darken and develop a sandpaper texture over days two and three before sloughing off to reveal fresher skin by days three to five. Tone and texture continue improving over the following weeks as new collagen forms.

Moxi fits into your life in a way that most laser treatments don't. A few days of healing, and the results keep coming for weeks afterward. It's the treatment that asks the least of you and still delivers something real. That's a harder combination to find than most people think.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moxi Laser Treatments

What is a non-ablative fractionated laser?

A non-ablative laser doesn’t remove the outer layer of skin the way an ablative laser does. Instead, it delivers energy beneath the surface to stimulate collagen and trigger the skin's repair response without breaking the surface. Fractionated means the energy is delivered in a pattern of microscopic columns with untreated skin between them. Those untreated areas accelerate healing. The result is a meaningful improvement with far less downtime than ablative treatments like the MicroLaser Peel or Halo.

What does Moxi treat?

Moxi is effective for sun damage, brown and age spots, melasma, uneven skin tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and overall skin dullness. It works well for patients with early signs of aging who want to get ahead of the process, and for patients who want to maintain results from previous laser treatments.

How does Moxi compare to BBL Hero?

BBL Hero and Moxi work differently and address different aspects of skin quality. BBL Hero uses intense pulsed light to target surface-level pigmentation and redness. Moxi uses laser energy delivered in a fractionated pattern to target deeper tissue, stimulating collagen and improving texture and tone. They are highly complementary, and many patients do both in the same visit for a more comprehensive result. BBL addresses what is visible at the surface; Moxi addresses what is happening beneath it. The energy from each treatment has a synergystic effect that elevates results

Is Moxi a good choice if I’m new to laser treatments?

Yes! Moxi is one of the most approachable laser treatments available and a natural starting point for patients who are new to laser skin rejuvenation. The discomfort level is low with topical numbing, the recovery is manageable, and the results give you a realistic sense of what laser treatment can do for your skin. Many patients start with Moxi and progress to more intensive treatments like Halo as they become more comfortable with the process and want to build on their results.
